Tip Tuesday: Getting Organized Part 1

Welcome to the blog home of Miss Mell's Stitching Corner. I've started this blog in hopes of broadening my audience. Post here will be timed at the same time as new videos that go up on my channel Miss Mell's Stitching Corner.

Now let's get down to today's topic. It's Tip Tuesday Time!

Stash Organization; it's something we all struggle with, some more than others. For a while now I have been able to comfortable manage my stash in my 9 cube shelving system, but recently I've started having growing pains. It has come time for me to expand my organization. So for the next few Tip Tuesday's they will be about how I am going to do this.

First step in stash organization, and well organization is general is to visualize how you would like your stash to be organized. How are you going to store your stash, how are you going to access your stash, will your stash not only need to be organized but also on display due to limited closet space? Or will your stash be able to hide away in a closet? Does said closet need shelving installed? As you are thinking on these questions or asking yourself more than list here gather all of your stash.

Yes you heard me, all of it. Now you need to sort into categories. I have identified 5 overall categories for you that you should sort into: WIPS, Patterns, Thread, Fabric, and Tools. This is also a helpful step when deciding on what type of organization you will utilize. You need to physically see which of your categories are stash heavy. For example do you collect patterns or fabrics? Do you get your hands on every tool or thread out there? In order to optimize your storage you need to organize each category to its most proficient.
